How does your target audience use social media?

According to the L.A. Times teens are losing interest in Facebook and choosing to use Twitter, Instagram, and even the video chat feature on Google+ instead. User growth rates in the U.S. are slowing and foreign markets have been less profitable for Facebook.

This could be the reason Facebook is reportedly testing technology that would allow the udder 13 crowd to join the social networking site under strict parental supervision.

The L.A. Times study revealed that ‘older people’ are the ones driving Facebook’s growth.

What does all of this mean to you?

Well, obviously you need to know where your target audience hangs out. If you are targeting teens you may want to add other social networking sites to the mix. For example, post pictures to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr easily by linking all of your accounts. Encourage users to share your message by giving discounts and promotions.

No matter what age group you’re targeting, it’s always a good idea to maintain a presence on several social networks that are popular among your target audience. It’s so easy now to link multiple accounts, post to one platform, and share on many.
